“They Had Been With Jesus” – Acts 4:13

“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished.  And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13)

“What would Jesus want me to do now?”  With this question, I have been struggling for last year and a half.  Last night as I was tossing around with the same burden, I had an urge to find out a long time friend’s whereabouts.  She and I served in a same church choir (She was a newcomer yet brave enough to join the choir.) and studied some college courses together.  She was in her mid thirties then.  Studying at an old age in a foreign country, she struggled quite a bit.  But she was always energetic and passionate in whatever she was doing.  No exception to her new journey of faith.  Soon, God started to work on her.  At the time she was finishing up her degree, she found out that she had a cervical cancer.  Around same time, I moved to a different city.  I was busy coping with new environment and couldn’t keep up with her as much as I wanted.  Some time later, I received a letter from her asking for a recommendation letter to a seminary school.  I gladly wrote one recollecting her constant thirst and zeal to know more about Jesus when I was with her.  Soon after, I heard that cancer cells were spread to her brain.  That was the last bit of news about her and I had totally forgotten about her.  But last night, all of a sudden, her name crossed my mind and the next minute, I was browsing the internet. I typed “pastor xxx,” thinking that she might have become a minister by now if she was still alive.  And there appeared the very first search result, “pastor, rev. Dr. xxx, senior pastor at xx church.”   Initially, I thought it could not be her.  But out of curiosity, I clicked the link and I couldn’t believe my eyes.  It was her!  On the screen in front of me, she was preaching, barefooted, in English.  Not only that,  after sermon, she who couldn’t even read the music before, was playing keyboard leading a praise song for her family.  She had completely overcome the illness.  And I could see that she drew all her family members to the Christ.  The church she was serving was known in the community for many good deeds.  She was living  a powerful life just like Jesus did.  And without doubt, I could conclude that she was with Jesus all this time. What did I do for all this same time?……  And the answer is, “Don’t waste precious time anymore, wake up, get up and shine for Jesus, my living God!”
