To win as many as possible, I became a slave to everyone – I Cor. 9:19

“Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.  To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews.  To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law.  To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law.  To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.  I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.  I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.” (I Corinthians 9:19-23) This Lent season, my heart is being constantly stirred up by an urgency to respond to certain callings.  Every time I attempt to make some decisions, suddenly, all the other options seem more attractive, important and attaching – money, comfort, luxury, children, parents, friends, situations…..  And I realize that I have been stating the phrase “For Christ” so easily, without much of thinking.  This morning, the passage by Apostle Paul calmed my struggling heart down finally to a peace.  O Lord, please grant me a humble heart to make myself a true servant to everyone not for any impure motives but only for the sake of gospel. “Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air.  No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. ” (I Corinthians 9:26-27)
